About the Artist

Alfred Ost

Belgian, 1884–1945
Альфред Ост — бельгийский художник, известный своим выразительным, динамичным стилем и работами, посвящёнными спорту, повседневной жизни и религиозным сюжетам. В 1920 году он получил бронзовую медаль на художественных соревнованиях Олимпийских игр в Антверпене за картину «Футболист» (Joueur de Football).
Во время Второй мировой войны Ост создал масштабную серию рисунков на стенах Xaverius College в Антверпене, изобразив жизнь святого Франциска Ксаверия. Из-за нехватки материалов работы были выполнены углём и древесным углём. Эти выразительные росписи сохранились до наших дней и считаются одним из значимых произведений художника.
